110 adults and excited children converged into the Tower Mill on Thursday 8th May to present the awards to the winning authors for the seventh year. We were delighted to welcome three authors, and their families, from across both categories.
Fleur visited with Drumlanrig and St Margaret's pupils where she read from her new book "The Yoghurt Plot" without giving the plot away! Questions on how she got ideas, when, where and how she actually finds time to write were discussed as well as pupils offering their thoughts on future themes.
Eva travelled to Denholm to meet pupils where she, Florentine and pig had a very lovely morning!
The pupils from Burnfoot needed to have their thinking caps on when Rachel came to visit. Her book was projected onto a large screen with certain rhyming words missing from the text. As she read the story the pupils were encouraged to guess the next word. An enthusiastic session ensued, enjoyed by all.
This years ceremony was given a make over! Each attending author read a passage from their book followed by a question and answer session from the audience. We also had two video messages from William Osborne and Gemma Merino who were unable to attend. (Gemma had been kidnapped by a dragon, so she told us!)
A huge vote of thanks goes to Tom Murray (Master of Ceremonies), Norman Latimer (Review Competition Judge) and Patsy Goodsir, who kindly volunteered to take photographs which are posted in the 2014 gallery.
