Adrienne KressIn 2009, the Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Award went to Alex and the Wigpowder Treasure by Adrienne Kress - a thrilling fantasy set in the dangerous world of pirates.

The Children’s Book Review Award went to Newcastleton Primary School. You can read the winning review here.

Winning author Adrienne Kress sent us this photo from Canada, to show the trophy had arrived safely.

She said:

‘That's awesome! Seriously! I am truly honoured, and you must express my gratitude and shock to the kids for me. I think it is so wonderful that you have established this award, and what's more winning an award based on the votes of the kids themselves is so amazing. Once more thank you so much, you've made this little author very happy!’

See some more messages from shorlisted authors here. And if you couldn’t make it to the Award Ceremony, visit our 2009 gallery here.

And have you seen our fantastic Dog Lost animation?
