 In 2008, the Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Award went to ‘You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum’ by Andy Stanton.
The Children’s Book Review Award went to Drumlanrig St Cuthbert's Primary School.
Author Andy Stanton sent this message to his readers in Hawick before the award ceremony:
‘Hello, Hawick! This is London calling, well, not all of London, just the Andy Stanton part of it. I just wanted to say how happy, delighted and all-round not-miserable I am to have been shortlisted for your award. I hope I win, but even if I don't, I'll still be your friend.
